SUBJECT: Resolution Accepting Completion of the Recycled Water Booster Pump Station
No. 2 Improvements
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached Resolution accepting completion of
the.Recycled..Water Booster Pump Station No. 2 Improvements.
BACKGROUND
The project included demolition and installation of new electrical equipment and motor control
systems and installation ofthree� City supplied, variable frequency dr`rves which will allow the
City to optimize pump operations. These improvements will increase the energy efficiency of
the pump station and reduce maintenance costs.
Bids were opened on September 29, 2010. 'On October 18;'2010, the City Council approved the
project budget and, awarded the - construction contract to Cats 4 U, .Inc., of Healdsburg, CA.
Construction was successfully completed on May 6, 2011.
DISCUSSION
Following the acceptance of the project, the City Clerk will. file a Notice of Completion - with the
Sonoma County Recorder and the Finance Division will release the retention money to the
contractor within 60 'days.
FINANCIAL IMPACTS : l
The, Recycled Water Booster Pump Station No. 2 Improvements City Project Number
C00500908, was approved with a budget of $300 The final. construction contract cost is
$69 861.51 The engineering costs incurred.to,date, are $105,000 and include an assessment of
the enfire recycled water system, design of Booster,Pump No. 2 improvements; :bid services;
electrical programmnig and, engineering services during construction. The .cost to date for ,
inspection and ,construction management. services is $32,000. , The, City'supplied three variable
frequency drives at a cost of $72,000. The current account balance is $21,13.8.

RESOLUTION ACCEPTING . COMPLETION OF THE
RECYCLED WATER BO.OSTER,PUMP
STATION NO. 2 IMPROVEMENTS
WHEREAS, in accordance with Section 68 of Article X of the City of Petaluma Charter,
Section 20162 of the Calif6mia'Public Contract Code and other applicable laws; the City of
Petaluma solicited . bids for the Recycled Water Booster. Pump Station No;. 2 Improvements
project ( "Project "); and
WHEREAS, bids for the Project were opened on Sep_ tember 29, 2010 in accordance with
California Public Contract
Code Section 4104.5' and other applicable laws; and
WHEREAS, the apparent low bid for the Project was the bid of Cats 4 U, Inc. in the
amount of $67,650; and
WHEREAS, by Resolution No. 2010 -194 N.C.S. adopted October 18, 2010, the City
Council of the: City Petaluma found the bid of $67,650 for the Project to be the lowest
responsive bid and awarded the Project to Cats 4 U, Inc. in the amount of $67,650 conditioned
on Cats 4 U, Inc:'s timely executing the Project contract and submitting all required documents
and authorized and directed the .'City - Manager to sign the.Project contract on behalf of the City
upon such timely submission and to execute on behalf of the City any amendments to the Project
contract that are necessary to effectively eonipletethe project and /orto realize the Project and /or
cost benefits for the City so, long as such amendments do not increase the original contract not -
to- exceed amount by more than $25;000; and
WHEREAS, the following contract change order (CCO) affecting the project amount has
been approved:
CCO #:1 — :Furnish and install four indicator lights, discharge piping at pressure relief
valve and a`level controller at the hydropneumatic "tank for a total cost of $2,211.51; and
WHEREAS the final contract amount as amended including all change orders is
$69,861.51; and
WHEREAS, City staff has inspected the Project and, determined that .it .has been'
completed in accordance with the contract requirements subject to the Contractor's continuing
warranty and other obligations pursuant to the contract;' and
WHEREAS; based on the foregoing, staff recommends acceptance of the Project on
behalf of the City;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Petaluma as
follows:

as complete subjecti to the Contractor's continuing warranty and other obligations
pursuant to the contract.
2. The City Clerk/Recording Secretary is hereby authorized and directed to file a Notice
of Completion concerning: the Project with the Sonoma County Clerk's Office within
ten (10) days of the date of this Resolution.
3. Staff is hereby authorized and directed to release all undisputed retention not subject
to pending° change orders within sixty (60) days of the date of this Resolution and in
accordance with : the.terms of the Project contract, California Public Contract Code
Section 7107 and applicable law.
