RESOLUTION 11V SUPPORT OF THE PARENT PLEDGE
1 WHEREAS, teen alcohol use creates serious health and safety risks for the young people of
2 our community, .and

4 WHEREAS, adults in our community have a legal and social responsibility to prevent youth
5 access to alcoholic beverages in both commercial and social settings; and
6
7 WHEREAS, the problem of youth drinking cannot be solved by individual parents, families
8 or institutions, but rather must be addressed by a comprehensive, community-wide prevention effort;
9 and

I1 WHEREAS, parents and families can be empowered to take an active role in protecting
12 young people from the risks of underage use;

l4 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Petaluma City Council does hereby
15 resolve that the week of September 17, 1995 be designated "Parent Pledge Week" and to encourage
16 all Petaluma parents to sign the parent pledge, make its guidelines family policy and, in doing sq
17 join with the. school, law enforcement and community efforts to draw the line on underage drinking.
Under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said City.
