Bierman, City Manager SUBJECT: Item l O.B July 7"' Council Agenda Discussion. Regarding Composition of and Upcoming Appointments to the City of Petaluma's Various Boards, Committees and Commissions. As you are aware, I have been.reviewing the various Council committees that have been established over the years and the estimate of the cost to staff them. Attached is a chart that shows the group, department responsible, and the cost estimate of support, which is approximately $202,000 annually. There are 22 committees, commissions and /or boards; ten are established by Ordinance and the others by Council resolution: The cost to staff these groups is quite reasonable and this review is not a high priority item - not a part of the "survival plan ". In addition, the July 7 agenda is extremely heavy and this item will eventually need a full public discussion As I have worked with and listened to the departments. and committees, I. have come to believe that the problem is not the groups, but the miscommunication and misperception of what their goals, objectives and roles are, or should be, within the organization. I want the opportunity to discuss these issues with each group, since I am relatively new here, and have my own idea of working relationships. My request is -for you to give me'the time to meet with each group and come back on October 20 with a consensus on what restructuring needs to be done. xt ., '15 • d 0 w a d L Fj w a w O M r: N a H A Pro V1 A + z` A I.
