Clearly, add1 environmental impact studies .are required and should.have' been considered during the budgeting process for the project. I sincerely hope such considerations will be included by staff in any future projects where there may be impacts that need to be identified and addressed. On the other hand, this is surely different from the described memories oUmany when I understand Petaluma used to proceed with project planning review on proposed development projects without, conducting environmental impact studies, The road diet project is close to moving forward, with grant funding that was secured' for it - to enhance safety and improve the downtown. And, fortunately, the estimated cost 'for the add'l studies is manageable. The road diet project needs to be completed', and pubilc safety enhanced. The grant funding needs to be maintained as secure and available to the City. I hope .the new Economic Development Director,is in the loop on this particular issue, working with the PDA, to assure desired - through- traffic, adequate parking, accommodation, for loading zones, and promotion of use of parking venues downtown such as the downtown Parking Garage, which is free and offers an easy access to much of the right- downtown businesses within a 3 -block radius. This can only encourage economic development and health, not detract from it. Entering and departing Petaluma with:an adequately wide lane for traffic and, safety as well as ped -bike friendliness can help; Petaluma. The add'I. small expenditure to complete needed studies, keep the project on track, and keep the grant funding' secure is the'sensible .decision to make.. Thanks for - accepting tk1s comment. 'Sincerely, Susan Kirks Petaluma 1
