RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF PETALUMA TO ACCEPT A GRANT AWARD FROM THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF RETIRED PERSONS FOR THE PURCHASE AND PLACEMENT OF CHESS TABLES AND SIMILAR PERMANENT STRUCTURES
WHEREAS, in November 2021, the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) awarded the City of Petaluma grant funding of up to $10,000 for the placement of permanent chess tables and benches within existing Petaluma City Parks; and
WHEREAS, chess can bring people together no matter their age or background and incentivize them to think, share, and socialize, connecting them with both their community and themselves; and
WHEREAS, the proposed action is exempt from the requirements of the California
Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) pursuant to CEQA Guidelines Sections 15303 (New Construction Exemption) and 15304 (Minor Alterations to Land Exemption) as the acceptance of a grant for the placement of permanent chess sets and benches within existing public parks will be minor construction and will not involve the removal of trees.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Petaluma hereby: 1. Declares the above recitals to be true and correct and are incorporated into this
resolution as findings of the City Council.
2. Finds the proposed the proposed action is exempt from the requirements of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) pursuant to CEQA Guidelines Sections 15303 (New Construction Exemption) and 15304 (Minor Alterations to Land Exemption)
as the acceptance of a grant for the placement of permanent chess sets and benches within
existing public parks will be minor construction and will not involve the removal of trees. 3. Authorizes the City Manager or her designee to execute all documents necessary to accept the American Association of Retired Persons Grant in the amount up to $10,000
for the placement of permanent chess sets within existing City parks.
