RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PETALUMA
ENCOURAGING SUPPORT FOR A COUNTYWIDE DAY OF
NON-VIOLENCE ON MAY 20, 1994
WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Petaluma is committed to working toward
improving community safety by attempting to decrease violence that permeates our society; and,
WHEREAS, violent acts and events impact our lives and that of our citizens on a daily
basis and in all walks of life, regardless of age, sex, occupation, religious beliefs, political
persuasion or ethnicity; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Petaluma is calling upon residents throughout
the City and Sonoma County to assist in promoting the reduction of violence in the community by
creating and nurturing non-violent lifestyles; and,
WHEREAS, in order to further raise community consciousness and voice our objections to
violence, the City Council of the City of Petaluma encourages active support from all people and
governmental entities in Sonoma County and each of its cities in declaring May 20, 1994, as the
Day of Non-Violence; and,
WHEREAS, the purpose of the Day of Non-Violence is to undertake a total unified
community effort in order to reduce violence through promoting community awareness of the
sources of violence in every day life and education in ways to negate their effects.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Petaluma does hereby resolve to
encourage support for non-violence in the community and challenges Sonoma County and each
City in the County to proclaim May 20, 1994, as the Countywide Day of Non-violence.
Under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said City.
