5 RESOLUTION REVISING POLICY AUTHORIZING DOG OWNERS
6 TO EXERCISE THEIR ANIIVIALS OFF THE LEASH IN
7 DESIGNATED PARKS

9 WHEREAS, the City Council has requested the Recreation, Music
10 and Parks Commission to address concerns raised about dogs in parks; and
11 WHEREAS, the Recreation, Music and Parks Commission has
12 investigated how best to control the use of parks by dog owners exercising
13 their animals; and
14 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Petaluma has required
15 dog owners ,while exercising their animals to have the means on their
16 person, to clean up after their animal; and
17 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Petaluma has authorized
18 dog owners to exercise their animals off the leash in designated areas; and
19 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Petaluma, upon further
20 public discussion has directed staff to revise the schedule of hours whereby
21 dog owners may exercise their animals off the leash, while under voice
22 control.
23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of
24 the City of Petaluma does hereby authorize the Parks and Recreation
25 Department to establish exercise areas for dogs, within designated parks,
26 whereby dog owners may exercise their dogs off the leash, and approves the
27 attached schedule of times and days, with said program to be in effect for a
28 5 month trial period.
