HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 94-208 08/01/1994 r :~=r: RCSOIl:lt101~ N®. 94-208 N ~.5. 1 of the City of Petaluma, California 2 3 4 RESOLUTION PROVIDING CONTINUED HEALTH BENEFITS FOR 5 COUNCIL MEMBERS WHO LEAVE OFFICE 6 EITHER UPON RETIREMENT OR NON RE-ELECTION 7 8 9 WHEREAS, City Council members are provided during 10 their terms of office the opportunity to participate in the 11 City of Petaluma's basic medical plan coverage for spouse 12 and dependents; 13 14 WHEREAS, Council members give to the City many 15 uncompensated hours; 16 1~ WHEREAS, many cities throughout the State of 18 California offer continued coverage to their Council members 19 upon retirement or non re-election to office; 20 21 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that at the Council 22 member's option, exercised in writing within 30 days of 23 departure from office, the City will cover costs of medical 24 coverage benefits after retirement or non re-election for 25 the Councilmember as follows: 26 2~ 1. Monthly payments equivalent to the designated 28 premium of Non Represented Employees under 29 the PERS Medical and Health Care Act for City 30 Council members who 31 32 a. Meet the Retirement Criteria established 33 by PERS; and 34 35 b. Have reached age 50 years; and 36 37 c. Retire or is not re-elected to office; 38 and 39 40 2) In the .event a Council member leaves office 41 or is not re-elected and meets the years of 42 service required under 1 (a) but has not met 43 the conditions of paragraph 1(b) above, the 44 City will pay an amount equal to the amount 45 in paragraph 1 to the former Council member. 46 It is the responsibility of the former 47 Council member to notify the City in writing 48 upon reaching age 50. 49 50 3) In the event a Council member is eligible to 51 retire under paragraph 1 above and has other 52 health. insurance benefits, the retired 53 Council member may elect not to continue City 54 coverage but instead the City will provide an HeS. rr~ ................9.4.-.2.O.Sa.cs. { . ~ A I 1 amount not to exceed the amount set forth in 2 paragraph 1 above. 3 4 4) The benefits provided in this resolution S insofar as they may be applicable, shall be 6 effective upon adoption of this resolution. 7 8 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager is 9 authorized and directed to be responsible for the 10 appropriate administration of this resolution and to provide 11 the City Council periodic reports of costs incurred by the 12 City for the benefits provided hereunder. 13 14 15 16 Under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said City.
