FROM WEAVERLY DRIVE TO CASA GRANDE ROAD
WHEREAS, residents along South McDowell Boulevard have raised concerns about
vehicle speeds, noise, property access and safety related to traffic on South McDowell
Boulevard; and,
WHEREAS, as a major thoroughfare (arterial), South McDowell Boulevard is not a
candidate for traditional neighborhood traffic calming measures; and,
WHEREAS, reserve capacity exists on South McDowell Boulevard and will exist
throughout Draft General Plan 2025 build-out; and,
WHEREAS, the Draft General Plan 2025 provides the option to reconfigure an under-
utilized roadway by implementing a reduction in the travel lanes (road diet); and,

access for residents by providing a larger buffer to travel lanes and atwo-way left turn lane; and,
WHEREAS, wider bicycle and parking lanes would improve pedestrian and bicyclist
safety; and,
WHEREAS, a road diet on South McDowell Boulevard would adequately serve traffic
volumes under the existing General Plan and Draft General Plan 2025 build-out traffic while
providing residents with a measure of traffic calming.
