RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF A 60 HP FLYGT BACKUP PUMP FOR
PRIMARY INFLUENT PUMP STATIONS AND "C" STREET SEWAGE PUMP STATIONS AND
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY PURCHASE ORDER
WHEREAS, the City of Petaluma operates 60 HP Flygt Submersible pumps at PIPS and "C" Street sewage
pump stations; and
WHEREAS,the City of Petaluma desires to purchase a backup 60 HP Flygt Submersible pump for PIPS and
"C" Street sewage pump stations to increase the resiliency of the sewer collection system; and
WHEREAS, Section 4.04.050 of the Petaluma Municipal Code allows formal bidding procedures to be
dispensed with when the commodity can be obtained from only one vendor; and
WHEREAS,the Public Works and Utilities Department has standardized its submersible pump specifications
on Flygt pumps (Resolution 94-11 N.C.S.), attached to the staff report as attachment 2 and incorporated into this
resolution,to maximize flexibility and convenience while minimizing the cost of operation and maintenance; and
WHEREAS, Shape, Inc. is the sole factory authorized dealer of new Flygt pump models for the municipal
market in Sonoma County; and
WHEREAS, the City Council budgeted funds in Fiscal Year 22/23 to purchase a backup 60 HP Flygt
submersible pump; and
WHEREAS, the proposed action is exempt from the requirements of the California Environmental Quality
Act (CEQA) in accordance with CEQA Guidelines Section 15301 (existing facilities), which categorically
exempts projects needed for the operation of existing structures and equipment involving negligible or no
expansion and the Flygt pump is needed for the operation of the already constructed PIPS and"C" Street sewage
pump stations.
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED,that the City Council of the City of Petaluma City hereby:
1. Declares the above recitals are hereby declared to be true and correct and are incorporated into this resolution
as a finding of the City Council.
2. Finds that purchasing a backup pump for the PIPS and "C" Street sewage pump stations is exempt from the
California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) pursuant to CEQA Guidelines Section 15301 (existing
facilities)which categorically exempts projects needed for the operation of existing structures and equipment
involving negligible or no expansion and this backup pump is needed for the operation of the already existing
PIPS and"C" Street sewage pump stations.
3. Finds that the Purchase of the Flygt pump can only be obtained from one source and that the City complied
with the purchasing requirements of the Petaluma Charter and Municipal Code.
4. Authorizes the City Manager to execute the necessary purchase order for the purchase of a 60 HP Flygt pump
from Shape, Inc.
