HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 93-77 04/06/1993` ~ Res®luti®n N®. 93- 77 N.C.S. . of the City of Petaluma, California RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING VOLUNTARY REDUCTION IN HOURS PROGRAM 1 WHEREAS, the City of Petaluma is currently experiencing significant revenue 2 reductions based on economic activity and State budgetary actions; and 3 4 WHEREAS, the City is looking for innovative ways to reduce expenditures for 5 the City; and 6 7 WHEREAS, several employees have expressed an interest in working a reduced 8 work week or taking an extended work absence without pay; 9 10 NOW, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council hereby establishes a Voluntary 11 Reduction in Hours Program to encourage employees in Units 1,3,4,5,8 & 9 to reduce 12 their work schedule on a voluntary basis and authorizes the City Manager to enter into 13 agreements with individual employees to implement this. program. The specifics of this 14 program are outlined in Exhibit A, attached. Under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said City. N.C.S. . ~ , CIT'I' .OF PETS U117~4 EXHIBIT A V®LIJNTAItY INDUCTION IN I30iTItS PROGI~AIVI PURPOSE To encourage employees who might wish to voluntarily reduce their work hours and thereby reduce City expenditures, the City will allow employees to take voluntary leave without pay on a;daily, weekly, or .monthly basis' not to exceed 20% of their annual regular work schedule:.. This "program is currently available to all non represented employees. POLICY The following parameters apply to the: program: 1. Any leave of absence must have the prior written approval of the Department Head and City Manager. 2. Reduced, work day or work. week may be on ,going up to 20% of annual work schedule: -Full time leaves of~absence may not exceed one consecutive month. 3. All. accruals (sick .leave,. vacation; etc.) will be prorated at the end of the calendar -year to reflect the `hours. of"leave taken. 4_ No reduction in the City paid health premiums will result for those employees electing voluntary reduction in hours or extended leave of absence under this program. PROCEDURE Any' eligible employee wishing, to voluntarily -reduce his/her work schedule shall :discuss their proposal with their supervisor aril/or Department Head. The proposed modified. work schedule shall be submitted: in iwriting to the City Manager,.
