DEFINITION .
Reso 8479
Under general direction, to assist the Di-recto''r in planning, organizing
and directing the planning anal community d'eve'lopmen;t work activities of
the department and perform delegated administrative'functions within
departmental policy; and' to do related work as req'u'ired.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Assists in planning and directing the administrative and technical phases
of city planning and community development;'conducts•or-supervises long-
range planning projects, residential development control system, housing,
revitalization, redeve'l'opment, economic devel'o,pment-and planning grant
programs. May supervise and coord.inate advance planning activities.
Plans and conducts assigned long-range planning p'rojects., Performs
special studies as assigned.' Engages in research',On planning problems
including population estimates, economic growth:, land use, zoning and
social statistics. Evaluates development plans for conformity with
established policy and the general plan Ana'yzes data on land use and
development and develops recommendations for action,. Prepares or supervises
the preparation of graph's, charts a'nd other materials for presentation.
Assists in supervising and training employees.and evaluates their work.
Prepares reports, desi';gns, plans s-fudies and correspondence. Attends
City Council, Commission or meet,ing.s of other groups on planning matters
on behalf of the director. Provides planning, housing, revitalization,
economic and other 'informat`ion to residential, business and property
owners, subdivide.rs,-builders, other City departmen'ts.and public agencies
and the public; acts for department head in his/her absence
MPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education .,and Experien'c'e:, Any combination equivalent to graduation from
college with a degree in.p,lanning, architecture, en;gineer°ing or a related
field and three yearsof progressively responsible experience in public
planning, including one yea°r in a supervisory or'admini:strative capacity.
Knowledge of: Community planning techniques and disciplines; socio-economic
factors affecting community planning,, hous''Fng and, revitalization; Federal,
State and local planning laws and.programs.
AbiIit.yto_: Collect and analyze data and facts; prepare,. present and interpret
factual data, make conclusions and recommendations and„ to communicate in
written, graphic or oral form, with other's effectively Ia'y out and direct
the work of professional planners and ot'her techn'i:,ca..l and specialized
personnel;- establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
