HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 93-244 09/07/1993~es®Il.,lgl®Yl NO. 93-244 N ~.5. of the City of Petaluma, California RESOLUTION SUPPORTING OPERATION VA TO OETAIN CONSTRUCTION FUNDING FOR VETERANS IIOSPITAL AT DAVII) GRANT WHEREAS, in August 1991, the Veteran's Administration precipitously announced the closure of the Veteran's Hospital in Martinez, California; and WHEREAS, in November 1992 the Veteran's Administration announced plans to build a replacement 250-bed hospital in conjunction with the David Grant Hospital at Travis Air Force Base; and WHEREAS, $21 million has been appropriated for planning and environmental studies associated with replacement facilities for the closed Martinez facility; and WHEREAS, construction funding has neither been authorized nor appropriated for this important facility; and WHEREAS, 400,000 veterans in northern California are currently without in- patient facilities; and WHEREAS, California in general suffers from inadequacy of facilities for the care of veterans; and WHEREAS, community members, representatives of veterans groups, and government officials have banned together in a volunteer organization entitled "Operation VA" to advocate for the construction of the joint venture project at David Grant. ass. To support to the maximum extent possible the efforts of Operation VA to advocate for the funding of construction of the joint venture Veterans Hospital and David Grant. 2. To call on the Congress of the United States to authorize and appropriate construction funding for the joint venture hospital project in fiscal year 95. 3. To commend the efforts of Congressman Dan Hamburg in his ongoing and continuing efforts to represent the interests of northern California veterans in getting this important hospital facility under construction. Under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said City.
