RESOLUTION DESIGNATING A PORTION OF TIIE PUBLIC
TURNING BASIN DOCK FOR PASSENGER
LOADING AND UNLOADING OF FERit~' BOATS
WHEREAS, the City of Petaluma has encouraged, through provisions within its General
Plan, public access and location of water-oriented recreation along the Petaluma River;
and,
WHEREAS, the Planning Commission, at its March 10, 1992 meeting, approved a
Conditional Use Permit for operation of a commercial ferry in the Turning Basin as
consistent with General Plan provisions pertaining to the river; and,
WHEREAS, the operator of a ferry vessel has requested exclusive use of a 20 foot portion
of the existing public dock within the Turning Basin for purposes of passenger loading and
unloading; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council, at its regular meeting of April 20, 1992, upon review of all
information forwarded by staff., the Planning Commission and the applicant, has found that
designation of a 20 foot portion of the public dock for ferry loading and unloading will
conform to the intent of the General Plan as it relates to public access to the Petaluma
River, and will not be detrimental to the public welfare;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the request for designation of a 20 foot
portion of the public dock, located in the Turning Basin near the foot of the pedestrian
bridge, for exclusive use by ferry boats for purposes of passenger loading and unloading, is
hereby granted subject to the following provisions:

2 1. Signing of the loading/unloading area shall be performed to the satisfaction of the
3 Director of Public Works.

5 2. Use of the loading/unloading area shall be restricted to ferry boats for purposes of
6 passenger loading and unloading only.

8 3. Mooring of vessels shall be prohibited in the loading/unloading area.

10 4. Use of the loading/unloading area shall be monitored until September 15, 1992, by
11 the Director of Public Works, to determine if further enforcement measures are
12 necessary. A report shall then be submitted to the City Council with any
13 recommendations for modifications to the area or additional enforcement measures.
