RESOLUTION APPROPRIATING
TRANSPORTATION DEVELOPI~iENT ACT
FUNDS FOR PURCHASE
OF NORTHWESTERN PACIFIC RAILROAD
RIGHT-OF-WAY
12 WHEREAS, for many years studies have been done on the Northwestern
13 Pacific Railroad right-of-way in relation to future public transportation;
14 and
15
16 WHEREAS, local jurisdictions in Marin and Sonoma Counties, the Golden
17 Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District and the Metropolitan
18 Transportation Commission have all affirmed these studies; and
19
20 WHEREAS, with the signing of the Intermodal Surface Transportation
21 Efficiency Act by President Bush; timing is right to attract federal funding
22 for the purchase of the right-of-way and, perhaps, other transportation-
23 facilitating properties; and

25 WHEREAS, to purchase the Northwestern Pacific right-of-way the total
26 Sonoma County cost would be $1,995.800. Of this, Petaluma's share would
27 be $166,050.

29` NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Petaluma City Council
30 authorizes appropriation of $166,050 from existing Transportation
31 Development Act funds as its local match share for the purchase of the
32 Northwestern Pacific Railroad right-of-way.

1 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City
2 Council encourages its staff to pursue additional funding sources for its
3 transportation needs and to request inclusion within this purchase those
4 additional properties that will facilitate local needs.
