HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 92-129 06/01/1992Resolution No. 92-129 N,~,~, 1 of the City of Petaluma, California 2 3 ACKNOWLEDGING VIACOM FRANCHISE RENEWAL REQUEST 4 ESTABLISHING COMMUNITY CABLE TELEVISION COMMITTEE 5 APPROVING SOLICITATION FOR TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE 6 EXPLORING ESTABLISHMENT OF NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION 7 FOR PUBLIC ACCESS 1o WHEREAS, the City is required under the provisions of the 1984 Cable Act to review and 11 consider a cable franchisee's request for renewal of a franchise; and 12 13 WHEREAS, Viacom has formally noticed such intent to renew on March 5, 1992; 14 15 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS: 16 1. That the City Council of the City of Petaluma hereby acknowledges Viacom's notification of 17 intent to apply for renewal of its Cable Television Franchise Agreement; 1s 2. That the City of Petaluma hereby establishes a Community Cable Advisory Committee 19 (a) to assist in the evaluation of past performance and compliance by the franchisee 20 (b) to identify the public's interest in future cable needs 21 (c) to evaluate and recommend to the City Council any renewal proposal received by 22 Viacom should the City elect to request a proposal for renewal of the franchise from 23 Viacom subsequent to the closing of the Committee's evaluation process. 24 3. That the representation on the Community Cable Advisory Committee shall be as follows: 25 Two (2) Council representatives, one of which shall be designated as Chair 26 One (1) Petaluma Area Chamber of Commerce representative 27 One (1) Petaluma High School District Representative 2s One (1) St. Vincent's School Representative 29 One (1) from each Elementary School District 3o One (1) Petaluma Valley Hospital District Representative 31 Four (4) At-large Petaluma Consumer Representatives 32 One (1) Teen Representative 33 4. That staff is authorized and directed to solicit proposals for technical assistance in those areas 34 which the Community Cable Advisory Committee deems appropriate to carry out their 35 charge. 36 5. That staff is authorized and directed to work with Viacom representatives to explore the 37 establishment of anon-profit organization to develop and oversee the public access needs of 3s the community. Under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said City.
