of the City of Petaluma, California
APPROVING MEMBERSHIP IN SOLAR SDNOMA COUNTY,
A PUBLIC-PRIVATE CONSORTIUM WORKING TO PROMOTE,
EXPAND, AND ACCELERA'T'E SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC/SOLAR
THERMAL ENERGY GENERATION AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY
THROUGHOUT SONOMA COUNTY
WHEREAS, Solar Sonoma County was established in 2007 as a countywide version of
the very successful Solar Sebastopol; and,
WHEREAS, the mission of Solar Sonoma County is to promote new installations of
solar PV and solar thermal on public facilities, homes, and private properties and to promote
.energy efficiency countywide through apublic/private partnership with an initial target of 25
new MW by March, 2011; and,
WHEREAS, Solar Sonoma County has received a BAAQMD grant, and also a very
prestigious grant from the Department of Energy (DOE), naming the organization as one of only
25 "Solar America Cities" programs in the nation; and,
WHEREAS, each city and the County of Sonoma has supported the formation of Solar
Sonoma County through a letter of support for the DOE grant, and now each city and the County
can officially join as members; and,
WHEREAS, the. Sonoma County Water Agency and PG&E have agreed to jointly
sponsor Solar Sonoma County for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2008, to cover the
membership dues for the governmental entities, in order to rapidly foster widespread community
involvement in SSC; and,
WHEREAS, the governmental. entities will receive the benefit of work of the entire Solar
Sonoma County group to assist local governments and citizens with technical advice and
assistance regarding solar installations; and,
WHEREAS, the governmental entities will be able to have links on their web pages to
the Solar Sonoma County website, to assist their citizens to further reduce greenhouse gas
emissions, and will have pages on the SSC website to share what they are doing to promote or
instal'1 solar to reduce greenhouse gasses; and,
WHEREAS, it is the intent of Solar Sonoma County that a member from each city and
county government, whether elected or staff, attend one Working Group meeting per month. to
ensure that we are all indeed working together to further the mission of Solar Sonoma County,
and to further the goals of our own Climate Protection Plans; and,
WHEREAS, the kickoff event for Solar Sonoma County will be tentatively be held
September 18, 2008 at Sonoma Mountain Village, and all members are invited to attend.

N®W, 'I'HEREk'ORE, BE IT RES®LVEI) that the City of Petaluma does hereby
formally join Solar Sonoma County for the fiscal year 2008/09, at no cost, and does further
commit to work with all the other cities and the county in the Solar Sonoma County effort to
mainstream solar across Sonoma County, and to work to become leaders of solar installations
throughout the nation.
Under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said City.
