RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PETALUMA
STATING ITS INTENT TO REQUIRE A PLEDGE OF LABOR HARMONY
IN THE PERFORMANCE OF CERTAIN CONTRACTS, LEASES AND FRANCHISES
WHEREAS, the City Council has introduced a Living Wage Ordinance which sets
minimum wage and other standards for certain City-awarded contracts, leases, franchises and
recipients of City financial aid; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council .intends to have the second reading and adopt the Living
Wage Ordinance at its next meeting; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Petaluma carries out certain proprietary functions of the City
which provide essential services to the people of Petaluma through the award of contracts, leases,
franchises and the provision of financial aid, some of which are subject to the Living Wage
Ordinance; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council of City intends that such essential services shall not be
disnipted by work stoppages or labor unrest.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that:
1. To the extent permitted by law, the City shall require that all persons or businesses
subject to the City's Living Wage Ordinance shall pledge to use their best efforts to
maintain labor peace and harmony during the term of any covered contract, lease,
franchise or receipt of financial aid in order to avoid disruption ofthe City's
proprietary provision of essential services by work stoppages or labor unrest.
2. This resolution shall take effect on the effective date of Ordinance No. 2256 N.C.S.,
an Ordinance of the City of Petaluma Adding Chapter 2.70 to the Municipal Code of
the City of Petaluma, Establishing a Living Wage Requirement for Specified City-
Funded Contracts and City Employees.
