A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PETALUMA,
CALIFORNIA, CALLING AND GIVING NOTICE OF THE HOLDING OF A
SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY,
NOVEMBER 3, 1992, FOR THE SUBMISSION TO THE VOTERS A QUESTION RELATING
TO THE AMENDMENT OF THE CITY CHARTER
WHEII;EAS, under the provisions of the laws relating to charter cities in the State of
California, a Special Municipal Election shall be held on Tuesday, November 3, 1992; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to submit to the voters at the election said question
relating to the amendment of the Petaluma City Charter; and
WHEREAS, the City Council proposes that the following language be added to the
Petaluma City Charter:
"Section 19: Compensation
The Council may act, by ordinance, pursurant to a duly noticed
public hearing, to provide compensation to each of its members in an
amount authorized by state law. The Council may act, by ordinance,
.pursuant to a duly noticed public hearing, to provide compensation to
the Mayor in an amount up to 150 percent of the compensation set for
councilmembers.
Any change in compensation pursuant to ordinance shall apply to
councilmembers and mayor immediately upon the effective date of the
ordinance even when the effective date is during a term of office
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PETALUMA, CALIFORNIA, DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND
ORDER. AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That pursuant to the requirements of the State of California
relating to charter cities, there is called and ordered to be held in the City of
Petaluma, California, on Tuesday, November 3, 1992,. a Special Municipal Election
for the purpose of amending the Charter of the City of Petaluma.
SECTION 2. That the City Council, pursuant to its right and authority, does
order submitted to the voters at the Special Municipal Election the following
question:

Shall the City of Petaluma Charter be amended by adding Section 19
to provide as follows:
"Section 19: Compensation
The Council may act, by ordinance, pursuant to a duly noticed public
hearing to provide compensation to each of its members in an amount
authorized by state law. The Council may act, by ordinance,
pursuant to a duly noticed public hearing, to provide compensation to
the Mayor in an amount up to 150 percent of the compensation set for
councilmembers.

SECTION 3. That the proposed measure submitted to the voters is as follows:
"Section 19: Compensation
The Council may act, by ordinance, pursuant to a duly noticed public
hearing to provide compensation to each of its members in an amount
authorized by state law. The Council may act, by ordinance,
pursuant to a duly noticed public hearing, to provide compensation to
the Mayor in an amount up to 150 percent of the compensation set for
councilmembers.
Any change in compensation pursuant to ordinance shall apply to
councilmembers and mayor immediately upon the effective date of the
ordinance even when the effective date is during a term of office
SECTION 4. That the ballots to be used at the election shall be in form and content as
required by law.
SECTION 5. That the City Clerk is authorized, instructed and directed to procure and
furnish any and all official ballots, notices, printed matter and all supplies, equipment and
paraphernalia that may be necessary in order to properly and lawfully conduct the election.
SECTION 6. That the polls for the election shall be open at seven o'clock a.m. of the date
of the election and shall remain open continuously from that time until eight o'clock p.m. of the
same day when the polls shall be closed, except as provided in Section 14301 of the Elections Code
of the State of California.

SECTION 7. That in all particulars not recited in this Resolution, the election shall be
held and conducted as proviced by law for holding municipal elections.
SECTION 8. That notice of the time and place of holding the election is given and the
City Clerk is authorized, instructed and directed to give further or additional notice of the
election, in the time, form, and manner as required by law.
Under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said City.
