S N.C.S. . y ou ' dr RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION AND COMMENDATION ADDRESSED TO LILLIAN NOD!IMSEN r INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMAN / /( , ..r and SECONDED BY COUNCILMAN - .T :. t! . ;. y r _,, at a Regular Meeting of theCty Council of the City of Petaluma on the 19th day of August. , 1974. WHEREAS, Lillian Nommsen, affectionately known as "Lil, " elected to retire from her duties as City Clerk of i this City; and WHEREAS, this Council desires that appropriate ' recognition of her loyal and outstanding service be made a part of the permanent and official records of this City; , NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this .Council finds and recites as follows : - "Lil" came into the City's service in April, 1953, .being appointed. by Edward -Frank to the position of Senior Clerk Stenographer to assi s • g p assist the then City Clerk and Director of Finance Gladys R. :Wallin. She stayed in this position until September, 1954, to take a brief respite from City employment only to return in February, 1955, as Supervising i Cler -k -steno in the Department of Public Works where she, remained until June 1, 1964, when she was appointed City Clerk to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of Gladys R.. Wallin. r /7 6 t yr , During ;h'er tenure with the City. "Li.l" displayed to her.:as;sociates and to the general public outstanding tact and kindness. To all with whom she dealt,;. she demonstrated a serenity and equanimity seldom achieved. A cheerful face, a beautiful smile,' and unfailing courtesy was her ever present trademark. Her charm warm personality always shone through and inevitably, even under the most trying of circumstances, created an atmosphere that soothed and calmed the most ruffled of feathers. In every way, in every respect, she was and is a lady in the honored true sense of the word. There are few like her and she is -a jewel. None can quarrel with this brief inadequate assessment of "Lil's" outstanding character, but this Council would be remiss if it did not acknowledge the superior skills and ability exercised by her in the performance of her duties for the City. f V Dur ing her twentyone years . of service, . she . served many bosses H all of whom rated her superior and outstanding. In the last ten years she has had many bosses, but only seven at any one given time. The Council, at times, has a tendency to pontificate at length and this can cause the City Clerk considerable difficulties in the preparation of Council minutes. Reducing the efforts of a five -hour meeting to clear concise manageable minutes is no mean feat, especially at those meetings when everybody wants to get into the act. She did it, however, and we can be proud that the business of the City has been faithfully recorded in a manner that leaves no doubt as to what transpired at each and every meeting. Such dedication and devotion to duty is seldom found. We, the „members of this Council, deeply tegret ":Lil's” dedision to retire. We declare that .we:, the City, the City staff, and the citizens of this City have lost a most valuable -2- Vii' T»' ub l i °c servant ervant who has made a distinct beneficial mark and left . benefits to be treasured by this City: Our association with this delightful person will be long remembered. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Council, on behalf of itself and the community it represent,.extends to Lillian Nommsen and to her "Henry," its deep appreciation and .sincere wish that retirement be most enjoyable, of long duration, filled with pleasurable activity, and give the opportunity to accomplish presently unfulfilled desires. May their future be outstanding. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that an appropriate certified copy of this resolution be forwarded to LILLIAN NOMMSEN. ** ** ** ** ** I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted by the Council of the City. of Petaluma on the loth day of August , 1974, by the following votes: AYES: Councilmen Cavanagh, Jr., Daly, Harberson, Matte., Perry, Jr,, and Mayor Putnam, NOES: None,.
