RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR COOPERATIVE PLANNING EFFORT BETWEEN
THE CITY OF PETALUMA AND THE CITY OF NOVATO AND INVENT TO
COIVIIVIUNICATE WITH ALL AFFECTED AGENCIES REGARDING PROPOSED
CHANGES IN LAND USE, SERVICES, OR FACILITIES IN THE 101 CORRIDOR
BETWEEN PETALUMA AND NOVATO
WHEREAS, in 1975 the Cities of Petaluma and Novato adopted agreements in support of
cooperative planning between the two cities; and
WHEREAS, in joint meetings between the City Councils of both jurisdictions, it was
agreed to reaffirm the importance of cooperation and communication between the two
cities and other affected agencies; and
WHEREAS, it is the common goal of the Counties of Sonoma and Marin and the Cities of
Petaluma and Novato to protect and maintain the agricultural open space nature and use
of the lands located adjacent to Highway 101 on both sides of the Sonoma-Marin County
line between the Cities of Petaluma and Novato; and
WHEREAS, the adopted general plans of the Counties of Sonoma and Marin, and the
Cities of Petaluma and Novato, reflect the preservation of the agricultural open space
character of the lands located adjacent to Highway 101 on both sides of the Sonoma-Marin
County line between the Cities of Petaluma and Novato, referred to as the Highway 1.01
Corridor; and
WHEREAS, the plans of. Sonoma. and Marin Counties and the Cities of. Petaluma and
I~Tovato, to preserve and maintain the agricultural open space character of the Highway 101
Corridor, are of importance to and deserve the support of other public agencies having
jurisdiction or other interests in this corridor; and
WHEREAS, all affected agencies have a responsibility to keep close surveillance anti
contact with other agencies relative to any proposed changes m land use, services or
facilities within this corridor;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Petaluma does hereby resolve,
determine and find as follows:
1. That the City of Petaluma does hereby endorse and support the need for
cooperative planning by the Counties of Sonoma and Marin and the Cities of
Petaluma and Novato and the Highway 101 Corridor;
2. That the City of Petaluma, in recognition of its support and cooperation, does
hereby declare its intention to advise all affected agencies, particularly the Cowlties
of Sonoma and Marin and their respective Local Agency Formation Commissions
and the City of Novato of any proposed changes in land use services or facilities
known to or filed with this City and affecting said Highway 101 Corridor and will not
act upon any such proposal until aL affected agencies have been notified thereof
and given the opportunity to comment thereon.
3. That the City of Petaluma finds the affected agencies referred to in this resolution
to include the County of Marin and the various departments or agencies thereof, the
County of Sonoma and the various departments or agencies thereof, the City of
Novato, the Sonoma Local Agency Formation Commission, the Marin Local Agency
Formation Commission, the Sonoma County Water Agency, the North Marin

County Water District, the Novato Sanitary District, the Marin County Open Space
District, Sonoma County Agricultural and Open Space District, the Marln County
Flood and Conservation District, and the Novato Fire Protection District.
4. That the City Council of the City of Petaluma shall and hereby does direct its staff
to carry out and comply with the provisions of this resolution.
5. That this Resolution hereby rescinds and replaces Resolution 7056 adopted July 21,
1975.
