WHEREAS, the. City 'Manager, as the Personnel Officer of this.
City, has submitted to this, Cotnoll a recommendation to establish the
position of .Sewer. Maintenanceleadman, and
WHEREAS, this Council finds that notice of this recomendation
has been ..publicly posted as.requited by. law; NOW,AMEREFORE; BE IT RESOLVED that .the Classification of Sewer .1
Maintenance Leadman .is hereby eStablished with a Salary range of $1.90
$4..74 per hour, with dutieS as hereinafter set forth:.
SEWER MAINTENANCE •EADMAN
DEFINITION
Under general supervision, .to lead and participate in the .con-
struction, maintenance and repair of Sewage collection system, pump
stations, treatment plant groun ds, 'treatment 'plant building and other
related facilities; and to do related work a8 required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES.
Leads and participates' in.the:work-_of a small or medium-sized crew
in installing, repairing,„.cleaning and: flushing sewer lines; builds or
pairs manholes, inspects sewer collectiOn. syStemlor.correct operation.
Supervises the excavating :and shoring up of trenches; measures, cuts and
fits pipe; locates seWer. lines. Supervises and participates in. grounds
construction, repair and maintenance work inblving rock. masonry .and cement
work .plants :and 'dares; for trees, lawns, ..flowers and shrubs operates light
and heavy trUCks, power. movers, .and a variety of hand. tools. Leads and
participates inHgeneralbUilding maintenance: Maintains records of man -
hoUrS, equipment, materials and work accomplishments; assists' in training

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education and Experience: Any combination equivalent .to. completion of the
eighth grade and three 'yearS of ekperience in the maintenance and construc-
tion of sewer facilitieS.
Khowledqes and Abilities: Knowledge of the repair and maintenance of catch
basins, - sewer lateral connections i mechanical and hand cleaning of sewer
pipes, the,construdtion and,taintenance.cf manholes; , ability to read plans,
blueprints and grade stakes, ability to Operate 'a variety. of equipment
including specialized sewer maintenance equ,ipment, ability to prepare re -
ports;• ability to establish and maintain effective relationship with others;
ability. to lead others ±n the performance of their' work; manual dexterity.
and good physical condition for heavy outdoor work.
BE IT FURTHER- RESOLVED that this clasific be placed in. Unit
2, established by. Resolution: No-5515 N.C.S., for purpose of the Meyers -
Milias-Brown act.

for upon consideration by the City Council and action at
