RESOLUTION OPPOSING ADDITIONAL ONE -
CENT SALES TAX

WHEREAS an additional One cent sales tax became effective July 1,
1973, which will create'additional financial burdens on consumers at a time
when the State has little need for additional revenue in light of a huge
existing surplus,
NOW, THEREFORE, EE IT RESOLVED that . the..City Council of the City
of Petalutha, on behalf of its citizens,'sttongly urges the Legislature,
upon its return to Sacramento,to.enact legislation which will have the
effect of reducing the total State and local tax from six cents to five
cents. It is further strongly urged that the operative effect of any
additional 'sales tax shOuid be delayed until the Legislature, the Governor,
and representatives of citiesand'cbunties 'can determine state and local -
government needs in connecticin with the terminatiOn„of federal programs x.
and withdrawal of federal fUnds and the possible approval by the voters
of the Governor's revenue control and tax reduction initiative.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVEb,that the City Clerk is hereby directed to
forward certified copleS tif:this resolutionb to Governor Ronald Reagan,
Senator Randolph Collier,and Assemblyman WillianC„Bagley.
