August 1973 la:l;K .... . • WHEREAS,. there is. an :increasing tendency. _and demand .in .Sonoma County to construct urban development in the. '.unincorporated area of the County and adverse to incorporated cities , and WHEREAS this City. has heretofore adopted an Environmental Design Plan which, has been presented to the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors for approval and support of .the 'policies expressed therein, and whichl plan expressly requests. the County to adopt appropriate and .strong open space .zbni.ng and .to deny. urban development in agricultural zones,• and WHEREAS. urban developments. require and demand the usual urban services such as , but not limited to, ses4er: and water facilities., police. '. and fire 'protection, which services cities are best prepared .to .furnish ; , and WHEREAS urban development in the. .unincorporated areas of the -County. often results in sprawl,: uncoordinated growth. ',and tends to disrupt orderly extension of the developed areas,' and WHEREAS urban development in the. 'unincorporated areas often results. in acquisition of agricultural areas and dislocates: agricultural interests,/ . a' Major industry, of this :County, and WHEREAS urbanization of Sonoma .County: adversely affects agricultural interests:, and - WHEREAS this City. strongly supports the position taken on this • matter by the cities of Santa Rosa and Sonbma, NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Petaluma opposes urban developmeit' in the County territory and strongly urges the Sonoma County.
