ORIGINAL RESOLUTION ADDRESSED '01,0 THE .CALIFORNIA, SUPREME, :COURT ,RELATING ,TO REAPPORTIONMENT f .::--, / /4 ./ Axwelair INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMAN / At Meeting of the City Council of the City of Petaluma on the 2 8th day of/' . .. . - September - 19.73 WitOOMMKNO WHEREAS the especial` masters. on -reapportionment have submitted their recommended proposed redistricting of the 'State to the 'California Supreme Court, and, , WHEREAS the proposal as related to Senatorial Districts fragments the County of Sonoma by creating two districts therein, and WHEREAS this Council finds that such a reapportionment is not in the best .interests of this City and the County. of Sonoma, in that it will create a situation which will' provide for a loss of community interest and dilute. effective .representation for City and County. interests . As Cities of the County will have different representation-, this will create diffi- culties and inefficiences in pti suing matters of common interest, and WHEREAS Santa Rosa, Sonoma and the Valley:: of the Moon are proposed to be placed in a different 'district with. 'Whet they.` have little 'in common and where needs and desires are =not ,necessarily reflective of the County of Sonoma and its Cities therein, . NOW, THEREFORE;. BE"IT RESOLVED that- for .the reasons stated above, the .City.- of Petaluma respectfully and strongly: urges the Supreme Court of the State of California to leave the 'County of Sonoma :within" one Senatorial District and not split the County. of Sonoma :into two districts in order. to provide effective "unified repres'entation .- NOW, THEREFORE,; BE' It FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby directed to forward 'certified copies' of this resolution to the Chief Justice of the Supreme "Court,. the Associ'_ate' 'Justices, the Clerk of the Supreme Court, and the .special Masters on -reapportionment.. under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter.of said City. n _� 6• .- I COUNCILMEN VOTE 'Seconded by _.__. _ Ayes Noes Absent.
