Personnel Officer of this City, has submitted to this, Council a recommendation to establish the position of Crime Prevention Specialist, and WHEREAS, this Council finds that notice of this recommendation has been publicly posted as required by law; NOW, THEREFORE,. BE IT RESOLVED that the classification of Crime Prevention Specialist is hereby established within salary range .41,' .$862 .00 - .$1, 048 .00 per month, with duties as hereinafter set forth: CRIME PREVENTION SPECIALIST DEFINITION Under direction, to assist the Chief of Police in the planning, implementa- tion and coordination of a program aimed at the reduction of crime and crime .occurrances.; to encourage police' - citizen partnership in the cause of crime -prevention; -and to do related work as required . EXAMPLE OF DUTIES. Assist in planning and 'implementation of crime prevention programs;: create residential and commercial burglary inspection programs and reporting pro- cedures; prepare and disseminate crime :prevention material, and information and to demonstrate. .various security devices and techniques; explain other Police Department programs ; introduce crime prevention program to the .com- munity and develop and maintain a continuing relationship with various com- munity and neighborhood groups; coordinate Depar'tment ' s crime prevention activities;' .conduct anon going program evaluation and recommend. changes as required; maintain daily log of activities and assume responsibility for various crime prevention activities including correspondence and to insure compliance with all program requirements; keep abreast of daily Police Department activities . KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES Ability. to speak and write effectively; ability to prepare clear concise and accurate reports ; ability. to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and members of the 'department; knowledge of function, organization regulations and policies of department; ability to read and understand police procedures and crime prevention techniques; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions ; ability to train others in crime prevention techniques; ability to quickly evaluate situations and give appropriate response. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Any combination equivalent to graduation from college with a degree in police , public or business administration and three years of public con- tact work, preferably as a police .officer. under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said City.
