BE IT RESOLVED. BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PETALUMA, as follows :
Section 1 . That the regular municipal election in and for the
City of Petaluma shall be held Tuesday, June '12 ,. ,1973, for the object
and purpose of electing the following' public officers for said City
of Petaluma as provided, in its Charter., to wit:
One (1) Mayor for the full term of 'four (4) years;
Three '0) Councilmen for the :full term of four (.4) years ;
Three' ..(3) Sabot-pi Directors as' 'members. of the Board of
Education for a term of four (4). years .-
, Section 2.; Said regular municipal election hereby called shall
be andidonducted;,, and the 'votes' thereat received and canvassed and tY
returns thereof made and the results thereof ascertained and determined
as provided in this resolution. Except as herein provided , said elec-
tion shall be held and conducted in accordance With the Charter of
the City of Petaluma .and the general election laws 'incorporated herein
and' "made a part hereof: The provisionsf of Division XII , Part 2 , Chap-
ter 2 , of the Elections. Code 'governing election in Fifth and Sixth
Class cities' are hereby incorporated herein and by reference' made a
part hereof, ex ceptlas :herein. otherwise, provided.
Section 3. All persons qualified to vote at municipal elections.
in said City of Petaluma at said regular' municipal election shall be.
qualified to vote 'for. all of the candidates and all of the officers

hereinabove set: forth., and also upon any measure or measures which
' May be 'submitted' .at said regular municipal election, provided that no
person shall be 'entitled to vote 'fdr any candidate for the Office of
School Director who ,is not also a qualified elector of the Petaluma
School Districts. Any qualified elector in the City of Petaluma
shall be entitled to vote at said regular election only for candidates
for the office of School Director, and the 'City Clerk is hereby
authorized and directed to provide appropriate ballots containing the
names of the candidates for School Directors for use in territory out-
side the corporate limits of the City of Petaluma, but which has been
annexed to Petaluma •School Districts for school purposes only, and is
within the territorial limits of the Petaluma School Districts .
Section 4. 'The 'polls °at the polling places hereinafter designated
shall be kept open .continuously thereafter' until 8 :00 p.m. (CDST) of
said day of election, when the •polls shall be closed. (except as pro-
vided in Section 14436 of the Elections Code), and the 'elections offi-
cers shall thereupon proceed to canvass the ballots cast thereat.'
Section 5. For the 'conduct of said -regular municipal election,
the City' of Petaluma is hereby divided into fifty-four (54)' municipal
election precincts, each of which shall consist of one precinct or a
consolidation of more than one of the precincts,' as last .theretofore'
established within said City by the Board of Supervisors of the
County of Sonoma for holding' general State and County elections .
Reference is thereby -made to said precincts by number as the same 'were
numbered in the orders or resolutions of the Board of Supervisors of
the County of Sonoma. last thereto establishing election precincts
within the City for holding general State and County elections . Said
municipal election precincts , the territory embraced within each there-
of, the polling place 'or places therein, and the 'election officer's ap-
pointed to conduct said election thereii .are hereby f ixed, established
and appointed Is ët forth in this resolution.

Section 6. Where paper ballots are, to be used in said regu-

INSTRUCTIONS TO _VOTERS : TO vote for a candidate of your selection,
stamp a cross IX) in the voting square next to the right of the
name of the candidate. Where two or more candidates for the same
office are to be elected, stamp a cross (X) after the names of all
the candidates for that office for whom you desire to vote , not to
exceed, however, the number of candidates who are to be elected.
To vote for a person not on the ballot, write the name of such
person, under the title 'of the office in the blank' space left for
that, purpose.
To vote on any measure, stamp a cross (X) in the voting square 'after
the word ."YES" or after the word "NO" . All marks , except the cross
(X) are forbidden'. distinguishing marks or erasures are for-
bidden and make the ballot void.
If you wrongly stamp, tear or deface this ballot, return it to the
Inspector of election and obtain another-.

Appropriate space shall be provided on said ballot for any addi-
tional measures eubniitted .at said -regulet 'elee.tion . The City Clerk
shall' mail, sample ballots, together with cards stating the location
of the precinct polling place of each 'Voter entitled to, vote at said
election at the time and in the manner provided by Elections Code,
Section 1 0012 .
Sect'i'on 7. In all precincts where, voting machines will be used
at said regular municipal election, the ballots shall. be in the 'form
• required by law and said voting niachi'nes' 'and the 'preparation :thereof
shall comply in all respects with 'the `applicable provisions of law;
and, in addition to any other matters 'required by law, there shall
appear on .the' 'front, of each :voting" machine the measures or authorized
condensed statements' thereof.
Where 'voting Mactines are used in Said election, each voter,
to vote. for any measure hereby submitted' .and for any candidate Or can-
didates. of his 'choice, shall operate the 'said voting machine in accord-
ance with the operating instructions for the 'said machine.'
S'e'ction 8. The City Clerk 'is .`hereby directed to cause 'a Notice of
Election to be published in the Petaluma 'Argus Courier, a daily news-
paper of general circulation, published in the 'City of Petaluma and the
official newspaper of said. City, as required by law not earlier than
the seventy-fifth' 'nor later than the 'fifty-fourth :day prior to said,
election,, and shall contain the information and be in the form pro-
vided by the Election Code .

' Section ;9,. All persons qualified to vote at said municipal
election on the date; 'of said election shall be' qualified to vote
for the 'candidates for all of the Offices to be filled and also
upon any measure subngtted at said election, provided that no per-
son shall 'be 'entitled to vote for any candidate for the office of
School Director who Cs. not also a qualified elector of the Petaluma
School Districts'.
Section 10. there shall be fifty-four '(5'4). voting precincts
for the purpose of holding said election, consisting of either the
regular election precincts established for holding State or County
elect-ions as numbered and established of record by orders or resolutions
of the Board of Supervisors, of Sonoma County last .thertofore 'establish-
ing precincts within the City of Petaluma- for holding general State and
County elections now 'on file in the Office 'of the County Clerk bf
said County, or a consolidation of sbnie 'or all of such 'precints as
hereinafter set forth, and said precincts shall be as follows

Section 12 . The City Clerk is hereby directed to arrange for the
necessary voting booths and see that they are properly erected in each
of the polling places hereinbefore specified. Said City Clerk shall
have the necessary .ballot - r-inted and procure .ballot boxes , stamps ,
ink pads , affidavits of registration and index thereto , tally lists,
returns , envelopes and all other necessary supplies, and see that they are
properly distributed to each voting booth prior to the opening of the polls.
on the date of said election. The compensation of the elction officers
hereby appointed, and each thereof, for their respective services , and in
full thereof is hereby fixed as follows:

For Judges and Clerks $ 18 . 00
Section 13-. The returns of said Consolidated Regular Municipal Elec-
tion shall be made out and signed by the election officers and shall be by
them deposited with the City Clerk together with the ballots cast at said
election, and the Council shall meet at its usual meeting place and can-
vass the returns of election on Monday, June 18 , 1973 (being the first
regular meeting following said election) at the hour of 7 : 30 p.m. , and
declare the results of said election; provided, that if all of the
returns of said election are not in or said canvass is not, for any
' reason, completed on said date, the Council may adjourn until Tuesday,
June 19 , 1973 , at the hour of 7 : 30 p.m. for the 'purpose of completing said
canvass and declaring the result of said election.
