Resolution No. 2006-044 N.C.S.
of the City of Petaluma, California
AUTHORIZING MAYOR TO SIGN LETTER OF SUPPORT FOR AB 32,
A BILL TO ESTABLISH TARGETS AND REQUIRE REPORTING OF
GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS FROM MAJOR SOURCES IN CALIFORNIA
WHEREAS, Petaluma has recognized the importance of global warming and climate
protection, and is one of nine Sonoma County cities who has taken a leadership role by pledging
to reduce both greenhouse gas and air pollution emissions throughout the community; and
WHEREAS, Greater awareness on energy efficiency provides multiple local benefits by
improving air quality as well as saving money for local government, its businesses and its
residents; and
WHEREAS, AB 32, authored by Fran Pavley, California State Assemblymember, along
with Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, will establish targets and require reporting of greenhouse
gas emissions from major sources in California as well as complement and put into statute the
Governor's executive order on climate change signed last year.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Petaluma City Council that Mayor
Glass is hereby authorized to sign a letter of support for AB 32 to support the State of
California's efforts to reduce greenhouse gases and improve California's environment and public
health.
Under the power and authority conferred upon this. Council by the Charter of said City.
