WHEREAS , Helen. Putnam,' Mayor of the City of Petaluma, has
issued .a proclamation reading as. follows't'

City of Petaluma
WHEREAS•, one' 'hundred and ninety-six. years ago
on July Fourth, . 'freedom loving" men penned
democracy' s.; greatest' The Declaration of
Independence;: and
WHEREAS,' the Declaration of Independence em-
bodies our proven and great American principles and
' represents thet,:foundation of our ,nation and people.'
This was a divinely inspired document voicing what
our nation' s 'founders believed would be 'a new order
of the age's; and
WHEREAS;,: on July- Fourth each. .vear Petaluma citi-
zens pause with the rest of the 'country to pay tribute '.
to the founding day of our Nation and ;to reaffirm our
deep and'. unwavering belief in our rich American heri-
tage and principles; and
WHEREAS, we must, however, do more than make this
a day of rest and vacation. We must 'let the rest of
the 'world' know that we do "hold these .truths to be
self-evident .that all- equal ,' that .they:
are endowed by their Creator with. 'certain inalienable
rights.' To secure these rights , governments are in-
stituted among men, deriving their just powers from
the' :consent Of the .governed. " ' .
NOW,. THEREFORE.,. I, Hehen Putnam, Mayor. of the, City.
of Petaluma', do hereby proclaim a citywide
"RINGING OF THE BELLS'
for four minutes at :11:DO a.m. -Pacific Daylight Time On
July Fourth as 'a solemn tribute Ito our country ' s; :founders

and as a rededication to' our- national unity and ,our
undying devotion to. our country and for what 'it stands .
WHEREAS', this Council heartily concurs in the 'statenients.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE ST RESOLVED that. ths Council strongly
urges the citizens of the 'City. of Petaluma to comply with the, city-
wide "RINGING OF THE BELLS" fora period of four' minutes at 11 :00
o ' clock a.m. Pacific Dayli'ght 'Time on July 4 , 1972 ..
