WHEREAS, the City Manager has recommended terms and
conditions of employment for Unit 1 which this Council finds
appropriate;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the terms and
conditions of employment for Unit 1 as set forth in the City
Manager' s letter of July 6 , 1972 , attached hereto as Exhibit
"A" , are hereby adopted to be effective July 1, 1972 .

Dear Madam Mayor and Gentlemen:
I am recommending that you adopt for the 1972-73 fiscal year
the following proposalstfor Unit 1 :
1 . That the City Council approve the renewal of the
health plan with the County of Sonoma and pay the
full amount of $17 . 02 per month as billed by the
County for each employee ' s coverage.
2 . Overtime* All employees of this Unit who are requested
to perform emergency work or who have been recalled to
work on account of emergency conditions beyond the nor-
mal working day shall be paid for such additional work
at one and one half times the hourly rate based upon
173 . 33 hours per month.
All other, overtime, not emergency, shall be compensated
for at the regular hourly wage. rate equivalent of the
employee concerned. Employees required to attend regu-
lar scheduled evening meetings shall be considered in
this category and may receive comp time or pay at their
regular hourly rate.
Employees required to work overtime may receive equiva-
lent compensatory time off. In all instances of overtime ,
the department head , subject to the approval of the City
Manager , shall determine whether overtime shall be with
pay or compensatory time off. Such compensatory Lime
off shall be taken within one (I) year after such over-
time was worked; otherwise compensation in cash fox
overtime will be allowed.
Any employee required to work overtime shall , in no case::
be compensated for less than one hour for such overtime .
3 . Recommend that the City Council adopt the salary
as set "forth in Appendix A, effective ,;July 1 , 1972 .
*The above does not-apply to those positions in thts, proposal
which are marked with an asterisk (*) , listed in Appendix AA .

(1) In the case of Battalion Fire Chiefs and the Fire Marshal ,
if they meet the qualifications for the education benefits

member of the Petaluma Fite Department
30 Units in Fire Science and 6 years as a
