BACKGROUND: On March 6, 2000, the City Council awarded a contract,to,.Partium Paving;.Inc. for the "D" Street Bridge Rehabilitation Project. The work consisted of rehabilitating and seismically retrofitting the "D" Street Bridge. This bridge is of multi-span;construction with cast-in-place reinforced concrete slab on pile extension segments at both end s, and with a steel truss bascule movable main span. The 57-foot long concrete road approach on the west side of the bridge was replaced along with the sur-face.deckslab on both roadway approaches to the, bridge. Additional work included structural, electrical and mechanical.modifications to the bridge. The bridge tender's house, counterweight pit, machinery pit and 'other;features were also part of the work. The project contract allowed "D" Street to be closed, for 68 days. However, the work was completed in 59 days (9 days ahead of schedule), which, earned the contractor an incentive payment of$45,000•($5000/day times 9.days). The'contractor:has completed the work fora final amount of$1,508,275.74: The 10% retention payment is due and payable 35 days after the City Clerk records the Notice of Completion. Because of the good communication and project planning, and teamwork between the contractor, construction manager/inspector,.the community, and the City; this project was a success. 3. ALTERNATIVES: Accept the completion of the project.. 111 4. FINANCIAL IMPACTS: Throughout the project construction personnel worked with Caltrans to increase the HBRR (State Highway Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation) funds to match the actual cost of the participating items of work. The total cost of this project is $2,223,976 which is funded by HBRR funds ($926,977) and Community Facilities fund $1,296,999. The approved budget was $2,373,472. 5.
