Resolution Summary Statement: In 1998; the Board of Supervisors directed an in-depth study of the tourism industry within Sonoma County, culminating in the endorsement of a Plan in July of 1998 which provided recommendations for .building a countywide tourism organization: The Sonoma County Economic Development Board was charged with overseeing the implementation of the Plana The organizational structure of the Sonoma County Tourism Program includes the Sonoma County Tourism Council, who makes the key decisions;detennining the directibmof marketing Sonoma County:; the Board of Supervisors, who is responsible for the allocation of TOT funds collected in the unincorporated areas of the County; the cities; the Investors Committee; as well asads ertising; public relations and marketing components. This new program replaced the Sonoma County Conventiomand Visitors Bureau. • The Investors' Committee meets on a quarterly basis to discuss the Sonoma County Tourism Program's efforts and the potential creation of a Joint Powers4Agreement between the cities and the county. The Committee is tasked with broad overview of the tourism program, including review of policies and budgets, staff needs, and recommendati'ons,to the Board of Supervisbrs'and participating city councils.
