SUBJECT: Status of Park Master Plan and Potential Bond Foi Financing Park
Development
The Recreation, Music and Parks Commission, through the efforts of Commissioner
Robert Kates, did preliminary work towards the development: of a Park Association.
Following a presentation to the City Council, the Park Association project has been
deferred until initial work on the General Plan.and Park Master Plan efforts are started.
• Commissioners discussed at their February 21, 2001 meeting, that until the needs of the
community have been developed it will be hard for the community to participate in any
fund raising efforts.
Staff and Commissioner have met with General Plan Executive Director, Pamela Tuft
regarding the joint efforts to develop a Park Master Plan and General Plan. Intent of the
meeting was to coordinate.`botitefforts so as to prevent duplication and confusion when
meeting with the public.
In the meantime, Commissioner Steve Arago is trying to arrange for Sonoma State
Environmental classes to staft.conducting information gathering in Petaluma to assist in
the Park Master.Plan Project.
Members of the,Recreation, Music and Parks Commission have long discussed the idea
of a.park bond but realize until needs are expressed by the community, ;support will be
lacking.
As the General Plan effort starts to unfold, and community needs are expressed, the
commission will then suggest a proposal to the City Council,`regarding a bond issue.
