At a City Council meeting.lastmonth, several of you asked about the'status of the Unreinforced Masonry.Program funded in part by the.Redevelopment Agency. You expressed concern about • whether property owners willbe-caughtrunaware of the time limits imposed by our ordinance. Attached is a memorandum from:Robert Bema,lChief Building Official, advising you of the status of the program. Please note that there are only five remaining property owners effected by the April 1, 2002 deadline, four of whom who plan to come into compliance this summer. The a fifth will complete work,by the deadline of Aprit2002. All other properties requiring•URN1 upgrading;are not requiredto comply with other URM improvements until 2004 at thelearliest. Of those, 39 have been completed,and 2 are being worked on.. Our list of..URIvlbuildings has been reduced to 52 that need to be brought_to,compliance. -Of the _ four URM building groups established, the following indicates the number of buildingslthat need • to comply in each group: Group;I-5 buildings Group II-8;buildings Group III 17 buildings • Group,.I V-22 buildings - • Group I+buildings must comply with this ordinance by April 1, 2002.: • • Group'II buildings must have parapets :braced. by April 2004, and work.completed.by April 2007, ` • • Group III buildings must have parapets. braced by April 2009, and work completed by April 2012. • Group.IV buildings must have parapets braced by April 2014, and work completed by April 2017.. Of the buildings:in Group I, all five owners have been contacted. Four out of the five owners have stated that they will start/continue work this,summer and have compliance by April 2002 Keith Neuendorff,. the Phoenix Theater new owner, has stated that he is in the beginning processes and will try to have all work completed by April 2002.
