Re: Street Traffic and Repairs
I commute, daily to San Francisco•via Golden Gate Transit. As I wait forthe bus on McDowell
near Caulfield,Lane, I observe'almost daily, the;speed.in which vehicles travel:North and South on
McDowell. In addition to the speed of regular vehicles, I have noticed an increase in the number
of big rigs traveling South on McDowell. The number increases if the traffic is slow on Highway
101.
Recently l read an article in the Press Democrat stating that-Petaluma ha •the worst streets in
Sonoma County. Recognizing that budget is limited for street repairs and likely to decrease over
the next few years, I recommend-the'City Council discuss the possibility of limiting the weight of
trucks on city streets. The trucks are loaded with^everything from steel beams.to'empty 18 wheel
truck beds. By limiting the weight on city streets will.certainly reduce the frequency of needed
•:street repairs and improve traffic safety on McDowell and So.Petaluma Blvd.
Please let me know if there's°anything) can do-to further this much needed, discussion.
