AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 21.204 OF THE PETALUMA ZONING
ORDINANCE 1072 N.C.S. TO PROVIDE REGULATIONS
FOR TRAILBLAZER SIGNS
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PETALUMA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. On August 8, 1995, the Planning Commission held a duly noticed public hearing
on the proposed amendments to the City of Petaluma Zoning Ordinance.
Section 2. Following a public hearing, the Planning Commission recommended approval of
the amendments to the Petaluma Zoning Ordinance.
Section 3. The City Council finds that the amendments are exempt from the requirements of
the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) pursuant to Section 15061 of the CEQA
Guidelines.
Section 4. The City Council further finds that the proposed amendment is in general
conformity with the Petaluma General Plan and applicable plans.
Section 5. The City Council further finds that the public necessity, convenience and
general welfare require or clearly permit the adoption of the proposed amendment.

I NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council hereby amends Ordinance
2 1072 N.C.S. as follows:

4 Section 21-204.95 Trailblazer SilZns:

6 A. Locations Permitted: Trailblazer identification and directional signs may be
7 installed only within the public right-of-way of arterial status roads or on other
8 public property.

10 B. Design of Signs: Trailblazer identification and direction signs shall conform to the
11 master sign design (historic street lamp) for such signs and shall be provided (at
12 the cost of the applicant) with an underground utility connection to the nearest
13 City street light, as required by the Directors of Planning and Engineering.

15 C. The Planning Director shall insure that listed uses and locations are of a regional
16 importance or have a regional draw and provide a public benefit. The Planning
17 Director will refer requests to the Planning Commission for their determination of
18 eligibility - consideration will be on Planning Commission consent agenda.

20 D. Approvals Necessary: No Trailblazer identification (light pole or attached sign)
21 shall be installed without first receiving administrative Site Plan and Architectural
22 Review approval. Placement of the lamp post shall also require an encroachment
23 permit prior to their installation.

26 IF ANY SECTION, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase or word of this ordinance is for
27 any reason held to be unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, such decision shall
28 not affect the validity of the remaining portions of this ordinance. The City Council of the
29 City of Petaluma hereby declares that it would have passed and adopted this ordinance and

each and all provisions thereof irrespective of the fact that any one or more of said provisions
be declared unconstitutional.
