N.C.S. of the City of Petaluma,
California
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PETALUMA
APPOINTING COUNCILMEMBER ALEX DECARLI VICE MAYOR FOR 2026
WHEREAS, the City Council Rules, Policies, and Procedures, Section V.B., provides that the Vice Mayor
shall be selected at the first meeting in January and serve for a one-year term; and
WHEREAS, the selection is based on seniority, and no Council Member is to serve a second term as Vice
Mayor until all other Council members have had an opportunity to serve as Vice Mayor; and
WHEREAS, in the case of newly seated Councilmembers, their seniority shall be established by the number
of votes received at the time of their election; and
WHEREAS, all returning Councilmembers have already had an opportunity to serve as Vice Mayor; and
WHEREAS, Councilmember Alex DeCarli received the highest number of votes of newly seated
Councilmembers in the November 2024 Election and has not yet served as Vice Mayor; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with Council’s Rules Policies and Procedures, Councilmember Alex DeCarli
should serve as Vice Mayor in 2026.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Petaluma as follows:
1. That the above recitals are true and correct and are incorporated into this Resolution as findings.
2. That Councilmember Alex DeCarli is hereby appointed to serve as Vice Mayor for the calendar year 2026.
Under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said City.
REFERENCE: I hereby certify the foregoing Resolution was introduced and adopted by the
Council of the City of Petaluma at a Regular meeting on the 5th day of January
2026, by the following vote:
