Kindly include my letter as a vote, for the pro. side of. the
argument that you soon have- 'to preside over: Good Luck !
I am writing, 'fl PPP9t: of the Salvation Army-is right to develop
and utilize their property ,at the McDowe'llrBlvd,._ location. Yes, I
understand that the neighbors are nervous that their
"tranquility" will be Violated.
I am not an .expert on. the Salvation Army,; but having- had some
association with them?,. I believe that if any 'organization -
government or pr-i.vate: - can efficiently= run: an operation and do
so with limited funding,: they can do it! They help the less
fortunate with little regard for their bwnLifinancial reward or,
public recognition. They see a need And they respond to that
. • need . They do not lavish themselves "wi;th salaries approaching
six-figures , or surround themselves with high-end furniture , Cr'
clink wine glasses with high-profile do good'ers_ , whose main
interest is to couch themselves in a lucrative an'd, cozy
environment, and Pretend that they ate helping the down trodden.

Neighbors, don ' t condemn these wonderful so1die-rs of the
Salvation Army. They are helping people that could be your
children or grandchildren,. YOU :yourselves did not make it
through life on your ,owh. Someone , somewhere , at some point in
your life helped you the teacher that took the time to ensure
that you understood the Lesson.; the employer that hired YOU and
not another applicant;, the lender that gave YOU a mortgage ; the
doctor that healed YOUR ailment, the clergy that helped YOU
spiritually, YOU might even be living in a subsidized home, or
drawing social security or SSI ; the list ,goe's on. . . .;
Look upon your new neighbor, the Salvation; ckray, as providing you
an opportunity tOT be a good citizen.. 'Volunteer, your services with
them,. All you, will have to do is ;cross th'e street: to lend a
helping hand to a fellow human being .
Remember . There:, but for, the grace of God , g:o YOU_:
R'espect-ful`ly,
Joseph Mauro
