Introduced By Council Member Seconded by Council Member John Balshaw Jack Cavanagh AN ORDINANCE REQUIRING RETAINING WALLS CONSTRUCTED WITHIN THE CITY .LIMITS TO COMPLY WITH THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENT OF MATERIALS USED AND HEIGHT. MODIFICATION TO SECTION 301 (b) EXEMPTION NO. 5, AND SECTION 2516(C)10 OF THE 1985 UNIFORM BUILDING CODE 1. Amend Section 301(b) , Exemption #5 of the 1985 UBC. Revised Section 301 (b) , Exemption #5 shall read as follows "Retaining walls which are not over two (2) feet in height measured from top of the footing to the top of the wall, unless supporting a surcharge, or impounding flammable liquids . " 2 . Property line retaining walls may be of all heart redwood up to two (2 ) feet in height; property line retaining walls up to four (4) feet shall be of pressure treated lumber; property line retaining walls over four (4) feet to be engineered. 3. On-site retaining walls up to four (4) feet may be of all heart redwood or pressure treated; over four (4) feet walls shall be engineered and set back a minimum distance equal to the height of the wall from the property line or foundation of the building . 4. Height of walls are measured from the bottom of finished board or top of footing to top of finished board. Ord. 1727 NCS Section #3: Details for redwood retaining wall dated 3/16/88 and details for pressure treated retaining walls dated 3/16/88 shall be the Standard and part of this Ordinance.
