AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PETALUMA ADDING
SECTION 17.04.060 TO THE PETALUMA MUNICIPAL
CODE REQUIRING THE INSTALLATION OF ULTRA -LOW
FLUSH TOILETS FOR NEW CONSTRUCTION OR REMODELING
OF EXISTING FACILITIES.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PETALUMA AS
FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Section 17.04.060 of the Petaluma Municipal Code is hereby
added to read as follows:
Section 17.04.060. Amendment - Uniform Plumbing Code.
Uniform Plumbing Code Title 24, Section 5-1001(a) is hereby amended
by adding the following:
All tank -type water closets shall use no more than one and five tenths
(1.5) gallons per flush and shall be of an "ultra -low flush" type. These
requirements shall apply to all new construction and remodeling of
bathrooms, when any building permit application is received following the
effective date of this ordinance.
In order to prevent or lessen unnecessary hardship or practical
difficulties in exceptional cases, e.g., the toilet(s) have already been
purchaed or for historic integrity, aggrieved persons may file a written
application for a variance with the Building Department when unusual
hardship will result from the strict application of these regulations.

ordinance for the period and in the manner required by the City Charter.
