HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2009-142 N.C.S. 09/14/2009Resolution No. 2009-142 N.C.S. of the City of Petaluma, California RATIFYING APPLICATION TO THE C'ALIFORNIA RELEAF 2009 'I'REE-PLAN'I'ING GRANT PROGRAIVI FOR $2,504 FOR THE E STREET 'fl'~E PLAN'I'ING PgZOJECT, ANI) AiJTHORIZING CITY MANAGER TO RECEIVE 'TI~E Fi1NDS WHEREAS, residents of the E Street at 6th Street neighborhood have applied for a $2,504 matching grant, administered by the California ReLeaf 2009 Tree-Planting Grant Program, in cooperation with the California Dept. of Forestry and Fire Protection, to plant 17 street trees within a one and a half block area of E Street, along City right-of-way that is maintained by individual property owners; and, WI~EREAS, the residents have worked in consultatic~n with the~ City Tree Advisory Committee to assure proper tree choices for locations and correct planting procedures; and WI~EREAS, if application is made by a neighborhood group, the Grant Guidelines require a government agency sponsor, in this case, the City of Petaluma; and, WHEREAS, the 1:1 matching dollar requirement will be satisfied by donations and volunteer hours, as~ allowed by the Grant Guidelines; and, WI~EREAS, since application submittal to California ReLeaf was due by July 31, 2009, the City's Parks and Landscape Manager signed the sponsoring document on behalf of the City, as required by the Grant Guidelines; and, WHEREAS, City Council ratification of the application submission is required, as well as authorization for City Manager to accept the funds. NOW, T~IEREFO1tE, BE IT RESOLVEI) that the Petaluma City Council hereby: 1. Ratifies application to the California ReLeaf 2009 Tree-Planting Grant Program for a grant in the amount of $2,504, on behalf of residents of E Street at 6th Street, for the purpose of planting 17 street trees within a one and a half block area of E Street, along City right-of-way that is maintained by individual property owners; and, Resolution No. 2009-142 N.C.S. Page 1 2. Authorizes City Manager to receive the grant funds, if awarded. Under the power and authority confcrred upon this Council by the Charter of said City.
