37 v Council. directed Staff to Ascertain the Petaluma School District's immediate
38 plans for property next to Casa Grande High School. if the School District
39 indicates it is ready to sell the property, a letter will be writ#en expressing the
4'0 City's interest in the property.
41 • Council directed the City Attorney to determine if a charter amendment would
42 be necessary to change the City's newspaper of record from the Petaluma
43 Argus-Courierto the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, as both papers now have the
44 same owner.
45 Council directed the City Manager to add to the agenda for the March 11, 2002

• Council discussed Street Reinvestment .Options., ;the need for Council to
decide their priorities for street repairs, and to what. standard "streets should be
repaired.
• Cou"Heil directed. staff to:
Determine the cost °to maintain major streets in their current
condition, including;
o Lntersection of East Washington Street and McDowell.

6 Council asked the developers to address, at the April 23, 2002 Planning
7 Commission meeting,: the following issues, which. were raised by the Site
8 Plan and Architectural Review Committee when they reviewed the project
9 on May 10, 2001:
10 a Reduce grading by designing a site. ,plan that works. with
11 topography rather than using floor plans that require flat lots,
12 "design process in reverse." .
13 Reduce size of lots and houses; minimize grading.
14 Remove ballfields from site plan, but retain, access to .open
15 space and Helen Putnam Park.
16 Consider saving barn and incorporating it-~ as a design
17 feature with a mare rural theme. ~ " ~~~
18 Integrate project with surroundings:
19 Gauncil asked the developers to bring to the: May 6t" meeting.,mock-
20 ups of the project, as it would be viewed from Windsor Drive, and from
21 Western Avenue near Howard Street.
22 ® Council asked that Parks and Recreation Director Jim Carr and the
23 Recreation, Music.,, and Parks Commission review the open-space

36 Paul McGavin, 29;7 Cambridge:: lane, who thought the developers had
37 done a .good job of addressing neighbors' concerns and that the
38 project would mean, "a lot of money that could be flowing to the, City,
39 which .could be used to address regional traffic issues."
40 o Susanne McGavin, 297 Cambridge Lane; who felt that. the City should
41 insist that traffic-calming devices be installed at the beginning of the
42 construction process.

45 Margaret Schaefer, 337 Cleveland Avenue, who showed Council
46 photos of her .neighborhood when it flooded, was concerned that the
