. . WHEREAS,Congresswoman Woolsey's strong stance on behalf of average Americans is rooted in her *

* Bay for more than 40 years,and as the first former welfare mom to serve in Congress,worked her way off public
`* assistance and rose to become a Human Resources Manager for Harris Digital Telephone Systems in Marin County, *

x , i WHEREAS,in 1984, she was elected to the Petaluma City Council,proudly serving the Petaluma , *
* ** community for eight years, and in 1992,she won a seat in the U.S. Congress,representing California's 6th District, **
*** including Marin County and most of Sonoma County; and **

* ** WHEREAS,Lynn is widely known for her outspoken advocacy of progressive causes, such as ending the ** *
* i war in Iraq and Afghanistan, eliminating wasteful military spending,providing universal health care,improving * n
* education,protecting the environment, and safeguarding human rights and civil liberties; and **

* WHEREAS, she has made 440 appearances on CSPAN about ending the Iraq and Afghanistan wars—and **
• * what started out as a voice of a few grew to a chorus of voices that have led the country in a new direction; and ,� *

* ** WHEREAS,her contributions to education include saving the Head Start program, increasing the ** *
** availability of quality child care; providing funding in order to draw more women and minorities into teaching; **

*** *improving remedial education; expanding federal grants for needy college students; and making it easier for **
* Americans to afford a higher education; and *

It** WHEREAS, she has fought for fair pay for women, for protecting whistleblowers and worker benefits, for ***
* * improving health and safety standards in the workplace,and continues to fight for equal rights under the law for * *
* Gay,Lesbian and Transgender individuals; and **

*,r WHEREAS, Lynn has worked untiringly to preserve the environment for future generations by advancing * **
* green technologies and jobs; by protecting the California coastline from oil and gas drilling in order to preserve ***

* * and focusing on renewable energy, clean vehicles and fuel efficiencies; and **

* WHEREAS,to all Petalumans,Lynn has been a friend, a neighbor,and a partner in solving local * *
* problems, and Petaluma has benefited from an influx of federal dollars to pay for the"flood fix"and for *
** transportation relief; economic stimulus funding for infrastructure projects and local schools; and for twice helping **
* * to save the Two Rock Coast Guard training center from closure. * *
