HomeMy WebLinkAboutProclamation - Small Business Saturday 11/05/2012 441, tCttpof Iroctamation ► SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY-NOVEMBER 24,2012 WHEREAS, Petaluma's Downtown Association and the Petaluma Area Chamber of Commerce represent many of Petaluma's small businesses; and WHEREAS, the City of Petaluma believes that small businesses are an important part of our economy and the glue that holds our community together as they create jobs,boost our local economy, and preserve our neighborhoods; and WHEREAS, according to the United States Small Business Administration, there are currently 28 million small businesses in the United States,representing more than 99 percent of American companies, who create two-thirds of the net new jobs, and generate half of private gross domestic product; and WHEREAS, small businesses employ half of the employees in the private sector in the United States; and WHEREAS, 93% of U.S. consumers believe it is important to support the local small businesses that they value in their community and 89% agree that locally-owned, independent businesses contribute positively through taxes and jobs; and WHEREAS, advocacy groups and public and private organizations across the country have endorsed the Saturday after Thanksgiving as Small Business Saturday, and the Petaluma Downtown Association and the Petaluma Area Chamber of Commerce plan to promote local shopping this holiday season as a way to support Petaluma small businesses and the Petaluma economy. NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, Mayor David Glass, along with the members of the City Council, do hereby proclaim November 24, 2012, as SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY and urge the residents of our community to support small businesses and merchants and shop locally on Small Business Saturday and throughout the year. ■ .7; Dewed 94.44, Nagar • 71r 'M..""" *A*4**1lO°*H � 7
