PETALUMA CITY COUNCIL
SCHOOL DISTRICTS

ROLL CALL 7:00 p.m.
PRESENT: Nelson, Sobel, Hamilton, Barlas, Shea, Vice Mayor Read
ABSENT: Mayor Hilligoss
CALL TO ORDER
The Joint meeting of the Petaluma School District, Adobe School District, Cinnabar School
District, Waugh School District and the City of Petaluma was called to order by Vice Mayor
Nancy C. Read and Board President Lou Steinberg at 7:05 p.m.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
All members present introduced themselves and Vice Mayor Read led the assembled body in
the Pledge of Allegiance.
PUBLIC COMMENT
There was none.
REVIEW OE JOINT PROTECTS
Petaluma High School District Superintendent Chuck Cadman reviewed current and past joint
efforts such as Casa Grande Athletic Field, Durst Field, Valley Vista Hillside Park, Field
Scheduling, Transportation Facility, Monthly Meetings with the Police Department, Student
Safety and Community Committee for at Risk Youth. City Manager John Scharer echoed this
cooperation and suggested that the other Superintendents be invited to join with himself and
Chuck Cadman when they meet. John also suggested that we can do a better job even yet of
sharing facilities in these times of shrinking public dollars.
City Manager John Scharer introduced City of Petaluma Recreation Director Jim Carr and
Steve Bolman who provided a progress report on their meetings regarding the maintenance and
scheduing of playing fields. A playing field inventory was distributed. Carr and Bolman will
continue working with the various community groups who utilize the fields and develop plans
to maximize the available fields.
Vice Mayor Read and School Board President Lou Steinberg asked that the group have an
open dialogue on the various topics listed on the agenda. Open discussion took place on the
following topics:

List of Child Care Facilities in the Community

The meeting concluded at 8:55 p.m. with the understanding by those present that each district
and the City will appoint a representative to meet on a more regular basis. Their first order of
business will be to prioritize the items discussed and plan how best to proceed.
